The wind farm is owned and operated by a community cooperative, who undertook to raise the funds to build the farm. WebHepburn Wind began construction in 2010 and started selling power in 2011. And the group had overwhelming local support. “We are a cooperative of 2,007 members,” says Lane. “They’ve contributed just under $10m.” The majority of the investors are from the local region, something the cooperative has written into its rules.
